The Ongoing Crisis in the United States

It's growing and growing, the ongoing crisis. Getting a little worse everyday. What'll happen next is not known but can be guessed at. Financial corporations are doing very well, but real companies—the ones that deal in making things, growing food—they're losing money. This gap, this chasm, seems to be becoming something the whole of the American economy could fall into. It's a schisming. It's reflected in its people, who are set apart on two sides: those who wish to bring an end to police violence, especially against Black people; and those who support the police actions. However, this is simplistic, and perhaps not altogether quite what is the problem. It is history abutting with legacy. The legacy of America is both slavery and genocide. The wealth and power of the former slave-owning states has never again been witnessed, and there is some sort of longing for a return if not to the specifics of that era than at least to the circumstances. There is longing for t...

What are the neo-liberals doing?

In the USA, in regards to the election. The neo-liberals are painting the election as stolen by the Russians, as though somehow they swung the electoral college for Trump. Except, as Ian Welsh points out , even if the leaks and the FBI did ultimately cost H. Clinton the election, both were own-goals. This cannot be stated enough. H. Clinton's email scandal was of her own design. The Russians never forced her to utilize her unsecured private email server. (That's not even getting into stating how the proof showing it was Russians who did it isn't good enough .) What's especially concerning is how commentators are chasing this lede down a very dangerous rabbit hole. It's unsettling to hear how people would be absolutely fine with the electoral college overturning their decision, because of these accusations. Well, that's called a coup. And if you're fine with the electoral college overturning result of an election, then you're fine with a coup, and all ...

Donald Trump Just Stopped Being Funny

Matt Tabbi - Rolling Stone Tabbi probably oversimplifies too much, here. I can understand. I wouldn't want to give much credit to Trump, either, but that's dangerous. Trump's campaign is dangerous. I'd even state it's proto-fascist in nature. It's what fascism looks like, before it's institutionalized. Trump isn't an idiot, though, as Tabbi tries to illustrate. I'd even consider Trump to be especially crafty, when it comes to understanding how to appeal to the Republican base. And it's that appeal that makes his campaign deadly. Trump has calculated how he can win the Republican primary. And so far, it seems as though he's guessed right. He says what he himself probably wants to hear. What's worse, is if he wins the Republican primary, he may even have a chance of winning the Presidential election. Especially if the Democrats elect Clinton as their choice for president. Thus far, Trump has run as the anti-Clinton. He's genuine a...

U.S. Government Designated Prominent Al Jazeera Journalist as “Member of Al Qaeda”

The Intercept I feel a sense of worry reading this sort of article. How long before the USA begins undertaking this sort of campaign within its borders? Labeling outspoken activists and overly-inquisitive journalists as enemies of the state on a list that marks them for either harassment or death? The USA already has many of its own cities under near military control, with police rolling through the streets in military gear, using military vehicles to confront who knows what. Probably drunk naked party goers. These lists, these watch lists. They're trouble. Not just for whatever enemy the USA has declared war upon, but for the USA, too. This sort of thing corrupts the soul. Because there's no way of contesting them. No court can rule on these lists. Once you're on one, then boom! You're dead.

Pentagon preparing for mass civil breakdown

The Guardian Meh. The USA military had a counter-insurgency book before it invaded Iraq, too. Doesn't mean the USA followed it, despite it being written by the commander of the USA's armed forces at the time. What this seems like is a security company teasing money out of the USA's military complex, and slapping together a bunch of conjecture. The USA's government is gamed out of billions of dollars for worthless projects like this every day. Just meh.
