Speculation on what will happen to the Convoy Supporters

Trudeau’s Money Heist: Emergencies Act Allows Seizure of Bank Accounts, Securities, Crypto of Those Suspected of “Links” to Convoy Members w/o Court Order

Just a reaction going off on a tangent from Yves Smith's thinking on this. She's misidentified what's important about the Liberal Party invoking of the EA.

There's a sentiment that the protests are mainly American funded, and following the money will bring us to the doorstops of particular American groups of people with vested interests in ending restrictions and discrediting Covid-19 measures. The EA invoking is likely not about stopping the money (although certain individuals will probably be targeted to set examples, and the banks will play along with this as Canada retains far more control over its banks than the US does theirs).

It's about discovering where the money's coming from. And getting these names will probably lead to certain discrete talks between Canadian and American officials about maybe taking down these American interests down a notch or two as they're getting a little too big for their britches. Ask for American officials to burn their fingers, and allow prosecution of someone relatively important to this group, which would give these interests all something else to do other than trying to pursue regime change in an allied country.

The sort of treatment Canada's received in these protests from American interests might be good enough for the likes of Ukraine but to witness them being done here is beyond crude. The right to destabilizing governments lies in the hands of the state and not in the hands of individuals, and so Canada will probably look to US officials to give short and sharp raps on the knuckles of the driving forces behind the protests to settle them down. Do to the Kochs as what was done to the Sachlers.

* Even if this is not true, the federal government will propagandize it into the truth very quickly. But it's likely the truth anyway, and so the federal government will have little work to do in the lead-up to the coming elections. Just allow headline after headline of a sordid list of names people will recognize on the peripheral: Koch, Sachler, Musk, and so on and so forth.

* Just to note, this is my mere speculation of Liberal Party elite thinking on this. I also think the Liberal Party will rethink the RCMP and other federal organizations and embark on a modest and discrete program of deHarperfication of these entities. Witness resignations of important positions in the RCMP soon. The Liberals will probably seize on a silent strain of anti-Americanism that's silently bubbling beneath the surface of many Canadians, and cruise to a majority government in the next election.

* It's important to remember, Canada's not a nice country. It's a wealthy colonial power that has vested interest in appearing friendly right up to the point where it takes control of other nations' resources through subterfuge and legal trickery, ala the French way.

* It's also really important to note, Canada is not entirely bound to its constitution, which is more of a patchwork document (remember, it was originally a British document written to allow loose imperial control of its colonial interests). Any and all attempts to reform the Constitution have ended in failure as any number of interests tend to have competing interest in amending it. Also, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms has loopholes big enough to drive a convoy through, and so is more of an aspirational document. The federal government tends to take a hands off approach to most events but when it does take hold, it usually squeezes. A majority of Canadians will probably watch what happens to the convoy supporters, and probably shrug as whatever the federal government will do is not happening to them; it'll just be happening to those "American lovers and wannabes".

* The Convoy Protests will probably be memory-holed except when it's needed as a cudgel to beat down on the heads of the CPC. This will probably be the high water mark of neo-Conservative movement, and much like what happened to the counter-culture movement, things will roll back against them to a point where they're irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

The Earth is Alive

It is not a being in a manner we can absolutely comprehend. It's deeper mysteries are probably too much for our abnormally large monkey brains. We can make good guesses as to its nuances and behaviors, but how do we prove anything above the level of the idea we believe there to be a molten core at its heart? We believe it breathes and maintains its temperature through the trees, the air, and the ocean. We can make good guesses at all this, modeling to best of our knowledge what it all may look like, and predict its future behavior, but we don't actually know, for certain. Which may seem like a weakness to some. We're nothing more than animals, really. We follow the strong, and the strong are certain. Uncertainty seems alike to fear to some. The Earth is alive, and it is ancient. We are mere insects to it, really. Its age is unfathomable, honestly. We can only imagine a time before humans. We wish for a sense of superiority, as though we're somehow important in the gra...

Death of B.C. aboriginal teen Paige blamed on 'brutal and cruel' support services

CBC News Ugh. Reading this sort of story just gets me. Deep in the heart, it hurts me. This girl. Hell. She looks just like any other girl on my reserve. Like any girl I've met in my community. She was allowed to die. She was passed around, passed off, and then simply passed away. All while in the hands of a ministry that doesn't know what to do with this girl, and the hundreds of kids just like her. Damn it! The best way of dealing with these kids is to work with the families, the communities these kids are being taken from. Instead the BC government plucks them out of the parents' care, sometimes for frivolous reasons, and sends then into this machine-like bureaucracy, and sets it on the spin cycle. Where the kid ends up, and how they end up, is of no concern to the province! Just so long as they can punt these kids further away. Work with the kids' families! Work with the kids' communities! That's the best way.

The way forward

I've been a in deep, deep depression these past couple years. I'm naturally manic-depressive, but I've also been genuinely sad, without an inkling of what I've needed to do in my personal life. I've been lost, and I've lost some friends. Well, I'm still lost, but I'm emerging from my sadness. I've taken a lot of time to think whilst in my funk. I'd been thinking, "How do we extricate ourselves out of this mess we've placed ourselves? What is the way forward?" I've found no answer. There's no clear path forward. There's no strategy, no long term plan that can really account for every possible setback that will occur. I suppose that's true of all plans, though. "Plans are worthless, but planning is everything." The solution then, I guess, is we need to wing it. Improvise. Get tough, and push forward. Suffer the pains from the blows we will receive, without flinching. Start moving forward to a place we wan...
