Some thoughts on the current Omicron crisis

I am returned. I suffered through a months long depression after the passing of a relative from Covid-19. My mood is lifting somewhat, and sparks of life return although in time to witness the nation of America fall into the madness of "herd immunity".

There is no herd immunity for this virus. The more people it infects, the more chances it has at mutations. It is comparable to the common cold in only that regard. Otherwise, it is deadlier and attacks multiple organs other than just the respiratory system leaving behind if not a corpse than probably a disabled survivor. It is not the sort of disease that should be allowed to become endemic but political and business leaders have decided that this is what will be done, and so America (and Canada) have decided on this march into oblivion.

At the rate of infection, and the rate of mortality from Omicron, it is likely millions will perish from it in less than a year in America alone. Canada—if it follows the American decision—would probably see deaths spike from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands. Hell, if America does absolutely nothing—of which it is perfectly capable—deaths could spike into the tens of millions, and here in Canada, millions will die. It does not take long for viral spread, and by the time political and business leaders decide on actually doing something, there'll be a hollowing out of the working population of which there is no recovery to save the economy. It is currently on life support as we speak. Our leaders are so intent on saving the economy by forcing people back to work, they can't understand it is solely the fault of the infection that people are away from work.

At the very least, Covid-19 has put to the lie the idea it is "ideas" that create wealth. It is solely labour, and this crisis is proving that over and over again. Every time work stops, wealth stops growing, which is what has our leaders in such a panic that they would decide on a stupid decision such as forcing people back to work before the crisis is resolved.

Thus, does this also prove something else. Nothing but a strategy of Covid-0 will save us from this crisis. A year long show of solidarity, work withheld but for all the most basic of necessities. People kept at home throughout the crisis until it is fully resolved worldwide. Otherwise, this cycle will continue indefinitely.

Private Equity is a TERRIBLE Investment... Who Keeps Giving Them Money? — How Money Works

Not too much to comment. Business in the USA and by extension Canada is bad right now. Probably for a generation. We really do need a generational plan to get us out of this mess. A ten to twenty year program, unfortunately. Placing pieces onto the board and moving them where they need to be to make things work again. By pieces, I mean people. We need good strong policies to implement as well. There's a lot to think about.

BC Election Preliminary Results Thoughts and Feelings and Some Preliminary Analysis

The BC NDP will possibly hold onto power in the province of BC. With a Confidence and Supply Agreement with the Greens, they should aim for four years of stable government. However, they should also look inward. They should take good lessons from this near-loss of power. The BC NDP wanted to take a "centrist" position —that they were "safe for business"— but have no idea that the further right the party tacks, the more this plays into the right's strengths giving parties like the BC Conseratives headwinds to go even further right. Rather than safe, the BC NDP needed to announce policies that would've been like swinging haymakers at certain business interests especially for rentals; businesses taking advantage of low wages for international workers; and universities taking advantage of international students. For current rent prices, this plays twofold against the NDP. Rent prices as they are now depress voter turnout for the NDP. People see the NDP as ineffe...

Carney speaks after capitulating to Trump's demands

Dunno how else it can be explained other than capitulation. Carney, you weren't elected to kowtow to Trump. You were elected to stand up to him. Canadians may even start to get buyers remorse for ditching Trudeau for you when he showed far more backbone than this. At least he cared more about Canadian sovereignty than this act. What exactly have you extracted for this? What benefit did this provide for Canadians compared to the billions in revenue Canada stood to gain from the Digital Services Tax as well as protecting Canada's ability to create its own taxes?
